    Ascorbyl Palmitate

Also seen as: vitamin C palmitate, ascorbic acid palmitate
    All ingredients

    What it does

A stable, oil-soluble vitamin C derivative. Provides antioxidant and brightening benefits in formulas where pure L-ascorbic acid would be too unstable.

    Best for

Lifting creams where vitamin C functions as a supporting antioxidant rather than the hero active. Compatible with sensitive and reactive skin.

    The full picture

Ascorbyl palmitate is L-ascorbic acid esterified with palmitic acid, which gives it three big advantages over pure vitamin C: it is oil-soluble (so it can sit in cream-base formulas), much more stable (no browning over time), and gentler on sensitive skin. The trade-off is reduced bioactivity compared to pure L-ascorbic acid at 10 to 20% (the gold standard). It works best as a supporting antioxidant rather than the primary anti-aging active. Found in ALASTIN, ISDIN, and Medik8.

    Evidence

Ascorbyl palmitate is recognized for its antioxidant function in cosmetic formulations and is safer for oil-rich creams than free ascorbic acid.
