What it does
A liquid wax (chemically not a true oil) that closely resembles human sebum. Balances oily skin without clogging pores and adds slip to dry-skin formulations.
Best for
All skin types. Especially good for combination skin and lifting creams designed to layer under makeup.
The full picture
Jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax ester rather than a true triglyceride oil, which is why it behaves so differently from olive or argan oil. Its molecular structure mimics human sebum closely enough that skin reads it as familiar, neither over-supplying oil to oily skin nor leaving dry skin starved. It carries lipid-soluble actives well and has a very long shelf life because it does not oxidize like polyunsaturated plant oils. Found in goPure's neck cream and several other modern lifting formulations.
Evidence
Topical jojoba oil has been shown to improve skin barrier function and is well-tolerated by oily and acne-prone skin in clinical studies.
