What it does
A polysaccharide-rich extract from the snow mushroom. Hydrates similarly to hyaluronic acid but with smaller particle size that allows deeper penetration into skin.
Best for
Dehydrated mature skin, K-beauty-influenced layered routines, and anyone looking for a HA alternative that absorbs more easily.
The full picture
Tremella fuciformis (the snow mushroom or white jelly fungus) is a long-standing ingredient in traditional Chinese skincare, used for centuries as a humectant in beauty rituals. Its polysaccharides have a smaller molecular weight than hyaluronic acid, which lets them penetrate into the upper layers of skin more easily for plumping. The hydration effect is similar to HA but with a softer, less sticky finish. Found in ALASTIN's Restorative Neck Complex among other premium firming formulations.
Evidence
Tremella polysaccharides have been shown to bind significant amounts of water and improve skin hydration in cosmetic research.
