An anti-aging cream improves the appearance of wrinkles, firmness and tone. It works best inside a routine that also includes a retinoid at night and sunscreen every morning, because those two have the deepest research behind them.
How we chose these 25 creams
Every cream here names its key ingredients on the label and has a US price we checked on the brand site or at a major retailer. Each one also has its own review page on our site with the full ingredient list broken down. When a brand publishes results, we say what kind they are, a clinical test, an instrument reading or people rating their own skin, with the sample size if the brand gives one. Fragrance and denatured alcohol get flagged because sensitive skin cares about both.
There is no single winner. A $12.99 jar can be the right buy for one reader and a $200 jar for another, and whether you already use retinol changes the answer more than price does.

What do retinol, niacinamide and peptides do in an anti-aging cream?
Retinol has the strongest research of the three. In a 2007 University of Michigan study in Archives of Dermatology (Kafi et al.), 36 adults with a mean age of 87 had a 0.4% retinol lotion applied to one arm up to three times a week for 24 weeks, and fine wrinkling improved significantly compared with the arm that got the plain base lotion. Retinol can cause dryness or irritation at first, and Obagi's own label for its retinol cream warns that mild redness, peeling or irritation may occur.
Niacinamide is the gentler option. In a 2005 study in Dermatologic Surgery by researchers at Procter & Gamble, which owns Olay, 50 women applied 5% niacinamide to half the face twice daily for 12 weeks and saw fewer visible fine lines and spots, less red blotchiness and better elasticity.
Peptides have softer evidence than most labels suggest. A 2026 meta-analysis in Frontiers in Medicine (Nukaly et al.) pooled 19 randomized trials with 1,341 participants and found a modest effect on wrinkles that came mostly from oral peptides, with inconsistent results for elasticity. Peptide creams are a reasonable retinol-free choice, but expect gradual changes in how skin looks and feels rather than retinol-level results. These studies tested ingredients, not the creams in this guide.
Best drugstore anti-aging creams under $50
The cheapest cream here is Eucerin Q10 Revitalize Daily Cream at $12.99. It is built on coenzyme Q10 and lists no fragrance. For retinol at a drugstore price, RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream costs $21.99 for 30 mL and contains fragrance. Cetaphil Healthy Renew Night Cream ($25.99) is the retinol-free night option, pairing peptides with niacinamide and listing no fragrance.
RoC Multi Correxion Firm + Lift ($29.99) contains no retinol. Its firming story rests on RoC THPE technology with Bugrane, an Ononis spinosa root extract. L'Oréal Revitalift Triple Power SPF 30 ($29.99) is the daytime pick, combining pro-retinol, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid with broad-spectrum SPF 30. Best K-beauty anti-aging creams
Dr. Althea PDRN Reju 2000 Cream is the lowest-priced K-beauty pick at $20.90. It lists 2,000 ppm of PDRN, or sodium DNA, with panthenol and ectoin. COSRX The Retinol 0.1 Cream ($27) is a first retinol with a stated percentage, 0.1%, and lists no fragrance (our Medicube vs COSRX comparison covers the rest of the line). The catch is the size: the 20 mL tube works out to $39.92 per ounce.
Dr. Althea Rapid Firm Sculpting Cream ($36) centers on edelweiss extract in a rich base. Sulwhasoo Essential Firming Cream EX ($124) is the luxury K-beauty option: a whipped cream built on the brand's JISUN Firming Complex, with Sulwhasoo reporting an 89.6% improvement in skin elasticity at 4 weeks.
Best professional retinol creams
SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5 and ZO Skin Health Wrinkle + Texture 0.5% both state 0.5% retinol, while Obagi360 Retinol 1.0 does not state a percentage, so its name does not tell you its strength. SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5 ($90) lists no fragrance, lists denatured alcohol fifth, and is meant for skin already used to the brand's Retinol 0.3.
Obagi360 Retinol 1.0 ($90) uses slow-release entrapped retinol and lists no fragrance, no fragrance allergens and no denatured alcohol. ZO Wrinkle + Texture 0.5% ($175) has no fragrance entry on its label but contains lavender and geranium flower oils. Best anti-aging creams without retinol
OKOA Dual Action Lifting Cream ($61.90) pairs a silicate film, which tightens the look of skin within minutes, with the Idealift lipopeptide for the appearance of firmness over weeks. Medik8 Advanced Pro-Collagen+ Peptide Cream ($99) is built on the brand's GF MiniProtein with an NAD+ booster, carnosine and polyglutamic acid. Medik8 says it contains no artificial fragrance, and it is Vegan Society certified.

Lancôme Rénergie H.P.N. 300-Peptide Cream ($140) comes with a measured result: Lancôme reports 38% better firmness in a clinical study of 45 women at 8 weeks. Shiseido Vital Perfection Uplifting and Firming Advanced Cream ($146) reports that all 33 women in a clinical test showed a firmer, brighter, more lifted look after one week. Seven creams in this guide list no fragrance: Eucerin Q10 Revitalize Daily Cream, Cetaphil Healthy Renew Night Cream, COSRX The Retinol 0.1 Cream, SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5, Obagi360 Retinol 1.0, SkinMedica Neck Correct, and Medik8 Advanced Pro-Collagen+, which Medik8 describes as free of artificial fragrance. ZO Wrinkle + Texture 0.5% lists no fragrance entry but contains lavender and geranium oils.
