Estee Lauder vs Lancome: Which Luxury Skincare Brand Fits Your Skin?

Estee Lauder vs Lancome: the short answer

Pick Estee Lauder if you want a luxury serum with no fragrance in the formula. Pick Lancome if you want the lower price per ounce, or a firming cream backed by an 8-week clinical study.

Both are department-store brands built around a best-selling serum. Their two best-known serums, Advanced Night Repair and Advanced Genifique, list the same ingredient second. The labels part ways after that, and those later ingredients decide which one suits your skin.

Choose this if

• Choose Estee Lauder if fragrance irritates your skin. Advanced Night Repair Serum and its eye gel-creme list no fragrance, while all three Lancome products we compared contain denatured alcohol and two contain fragrance.
• Choose Lancome if cost per ounce matters more to you. Advanced Genifique only comes in a 3.4 oz bottle in the US, and that size works out cheaper per ounce than Advanced Night Repair.
• Choose Lancome if your main concern is sagging along the jaw. Renergie H.P.N. 300-Peptide Cream is the only product in this comparison with published clinical figures for lower-face sagging.

Are Estee Lauder and Lancome owned by the same company?

No. Estee Lauder is the flagship of The Estee Lauder Companies, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange and is the second-largest cosmetics company in the world. Lancome belongs to L'Oreal Groupe, the largest, which bought it in 1964.

You can see the split in their sister brands. Estee Lauder's parent also owns Clinique and DECIEM, the company behind The Ordinary. Lancome sits in the same group as L'Oreal Paris, maker of Revitalift, which we cover in our L'Oreal vs Olay comparison. If Lancome's prices are the sticking point, that is the drugstore line from the same group.

Advanced Night Repair vs Advanced Genifique

Advanced Night Repair and Advanced Genifique start from the same base. They split further down the ingredient list, on fragrance, alcohol, and which actives each brand chose to add.

The ingredient they share

Both labels list bifida ferment lysate right after water. It is a lysate made from a Bifidobacterium ferment. Advanced Genifique markets it as its "Bifidus Prebiotic." Advanced Night Repair includes it without making it the headline.

The research behind bifida ferment lysate is small and specific. A 2010 study in Experimental Dermatology tested a Bifidobacterium longum lysate as an ingredient for reactive skin, which points to a calming role on reactive skin. It does not show that either serum firms or lifts skin. Neither brand discloses how much it uses, either.

Where the two formulas split

Advanced Night Repair includes tripeptide-32, which Estee Lauder calls its Night Peptide. It also contains hyaluronic acid as sodium hyaluronate, caffeine, and squalane. No fragrance appears on the ingredient list. It does contain two colorants, Red 4 and Yellow 5.

Advanced Genifique includes ascorbyl glucoside, a stable form of vitamin C, along with adenosine and sodium hyaluronate. Denatured alcohol is listed fourth. The formula also contains fragrance plus two fragrance allergens, limonene and citronellol.

What each brand's own testing reports

Both brands publish test numbers. They measure different things, so you cannot line the figures up against each other.

• Advanced Night Repair: a 128% increase in skin moisture after one application (clinical test, 148 women), and 14% fewer visible fine lines 12 hours after a single night's use (26 women). These are short-term hydration results.
• Advanced Genifique: after 8 weeks, the brand reports 46% fewer visible wrinkles and 48% more firmness. The product page does not state how many people were in that study.

The brands report all of these figures themselves. They tell you what each formula was designed to do. Independent proof is a different thing, and neither serum has it on these claims.

Which is cheaper, Estee Lauder or Lancome?

Lancome costs more at checkout on the serum, but less per ounce. Advanced Genifique sells in the US only as a 3.4 oz bottle at $220, which is $64.71 per ounce. Advanced Night Repair costs $135 for 1.7 oz, or $79.41 per ounce.

The per-ounce winner flips by category. Lancome is cheaper for serums and eye products, and Estee Lauder is cheaper for moisturizer. Prices come from each brand's US site on September 16, 2026. Department stores and holiday sets often beat them.

Estee Lauder vs Lancome eye cream

For puffiness, pick Lancome's Genifique Light Pearl. For dryness and fine lines, pick Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Eye.

Advanced Genifique Light Pearl Eye Serum is a thin serum with a cooling pearl applicator. Its formula includes caffeine, escin, and madecassoside, and lists no fragrance. Lancome reports a 17.4% reduction in the look of under-eye bags and 33.1% in under-eye wrinkles, drawn from an instrumental test on 31 women right after application with the pearl and clinical grading on 52 women after 6 weeks.

Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Gel-Creme is a richer gel-cream built on silicones and petrolatum, with bifida ferment lysate, tripeptide-32, caffeine, and hyaluronic acid. No fragrance is listed. The formula does include lavender flower extract and chamomile flower oil, though, which is worth knowing if your eye area reacts easily. Estee Lauder reports under-eye lines looking reduced after 1 week (52 women), and higher skin moisture 100 hours after a single application (31 women).

Estee Lauder vs Lancome for firming and sagging

The two brands back their firming creams with different kinds of evidence: Lancome with a clinical study, Estee Lauder with a consumer survey.

Lancome's Renergie H.P.N. 300-Peptide Cream has the stronger evidence for firmness, because its results come from measurements. Estee Lauder's Revitalizing Supreme+ has the lower price per ounce, but its firmness results come from users rating their own skin.

Renergie H.P.N. 300-Peptide Cream

Renergie H.P.N. 300-Peptide Cream lists niacinamide eighth, above the preservative system, so it is present at a working level. Niacinamide has solid published support for skin tone and barrier function, summarized in a 2024 review of its dermal delivery and clinical evidence.

No individual peptide is named on the label. The "300 peptides" in the name most likely come from the hydrolyzed plant proteins it does list, hydrolyzed lupine protein and pea extract, and our peptides guide explains why that distinction matters. The formula also contains adenosine, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, and capryloyl salicylic acid. It contains fragrance, plus benzyl alcohol, geraniol, and limonene, and lists denatured alcohol sixth.

Lancome reports these results from an 8-week clinical study of 45 women:

• 27% less visible lower-face sagging
• 38% more firmness
• 21% fewer visible wrinkles
• 22% fewer visible dark spots

Revitalizing Supreme+ Youth Power Creme

Revitalizing Supreme+ Youth Power Creme is a rich face-and-neck cream built on moringa seed and hibiscus flower extracts. It also contains sodium hyaluronate and acetyl hexapeptide-8, better known by its trade name Argireline. It contains fragrance.

Estee Lauder's published results for this cream come from consumer testing. Among 110 women, 89% said their skin looked more lifted after 4 weeks, and 95% said it felt firmer after 2 weeks. That is a self-assessment. It tells you the women liked how their skin felt, and it does not measure how much the skin changed.

Neither cream does what a procedure does. A good firming cream improves how firm skin looks, gradually, over several weeks of daily use.

Which is better for sensitive skin?

Estee Lauder, mostly because of fragrance. Here is what each ingredient list shows:

If you avoid fragrance, Advanced Night Repair Serum is the obvious pick between the two flagship serums. Whichever brand you choose, patch-test a luxury product before using it on your whole face.
