Eucerin vs Aveeno: Urea and Ceramides vs Oat, Compared by Label

Eucerin vs Aveeno: the short answer

Pick Eucerin if you want urea and ceramides in a body cream, a fragrance-free face cream, and the lower regular price per ounce. Pick Aveeno if you want oat in a short, fragrance-free lotion, knowing the oat is an ordinary ingredient, not a Drug Facts active.

Eucerin and Aveeno both sell drugstore moisturizers for dry skin, priced from $12.99 to $26.99 across the nine products compared here, five from Eucerin and four from Aveeno. This is a label-and-data comparison, not a hands-on test. Prices, sizes, and ingredient lists were read on September 29, 2026.

Eucerin's two urea creams list urea second or third, with Ceramide NP further down. Aveeno lists oat kernel flour in both body lotions and its gel face cream, but where retailer text shows a Drug Facts panel, the active is dimethicone.

Choose this if

• Choose Eucerin if you want urea on the label. Advanced Repair Cream states 5% urea and Roughness Relief Cream states 10%, and both list Ceramide NP.
• Choose Aveeno if you want oat and a short ingredient list. Daily Moisturizing Lotion has 10 ingredients, lists oat kernel flour 7th, and lists no fragrance.
• Choose Eucerin to spend less at regular prices. Daily Hydration Lotion works out to $0.80 per ounce, against $1.09 for Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion at Ulta.

Who owns Eucerin and Aveeno?

Eucerin belongs to Beiersdorf AG, based in Hamburg, Germany, and Aveeno belongs to Kenvue. Beiersdorf's brand page says Eucerin began around 1900, when Dr. Isaac Lifschütz discovered the emulsifier Eucerit. Its sister brands include NIVEA and Aquaphor, and our Nivea vs Eucerin comparison covers the closest sibling.

Aveeno is "a brand of Kenvue Brands LLC, a subsidiary of Kenvue Inc.," according to a Kenvue press release dated March 10, 2026. That release calls Aveeno a dermatologist-recommended brand for over 80 years, while Aveeno's product pages still say over 70.

Eucerin Daily Hydration vs Aveeno Daily Moisturizing: which everyday body lotion?

Eucerin Daily Hydration Lotion costs less per ounce and is built on sunflower oil and petrolatum. Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion has 10 ingredients to Eucerin's 21 and adds oat. Neither lists urea or a ceramide.

If you chose Eucerin for urea, this is not the bottle that has it. Daily Hydration lists sunflower seed oil second, petrolatum third, and glycerin fourth, with panthenol, the pro-vitamin B5 on the bottle, 15th. Aveeno lists glycerin second, petrolatum fourth, and oat kernel flour 7th, which is the "Prebiotic Oat" on its front label.

Eucerin says Daily Hydration delivers 24-hour moisture and publishes no study details. Aveeno's pages disagree with each other: the aveeno.com product copy says 48 hours and cites a 2024 Kenvue clinical study with no sample size, while Ulta and aveeno.com's own page description say 24 hours.

Is the oat in Aveeno lotion the active ingredient?

No. None of the Aveeno lotions here lists colloidal oatmeal as a Drug Facts active. Where a Drug Facts panel appears in retailer text, the active is dimethicone, as a skin protectant, and oat kernel flour is an inactive ingredient.

For Daily Moisturizing Lotion, Target's listing prints dimethicone 1.2% as the active and says the lotion "helps prevent and temporarily protects chafed, chapped or cracked skin." We could not confirm that panel on a current bottle: Ulta's ingredient list shows no active line, and no back-label image of the current bottle turned up. Skin Relief is clearer. Its 2025 back label is a cosmetic label with a plain ingredient list and no Drug Facts box, so the retailer panels appear to describe older packaging.

Colloidal oatmeal has its own research history, covered in a 2007 review, Colloidal oatmeal: history, chemistry and clinical properties. That review cannot tell you how much oat these lotions contain, and Aveeno publishes no oat percentage.

Which is better for very dry, rough-feeling skin, Eucerin or Aveeno?

Eucerin gives you more to choose from: three 16 oz jars, two of them with urea and a ceramide. Aveeno's answer is one lotion, Skin Relief, built on three forms of oat plus shea butter.

Eucerin calls the Advanced Repair blend a Triple Moisturizing Complex of 5% urea, ceramide, and natural moisturizing factors, and says the cream provides 48 hours of hydration without saying how it measured that. At $0.84 per ounce, it is the cheapest jar here.

Roughness Relief is the stronger urea jar, with 10% urea listed second plus lactic acid, the alpha hydroxy acid Eucerin highlights. Eucerin says it is clinically shown to provide a smoother, healthy-looking appearance, with no sample size or study length given. It now ships as Roughness Smoothing Cream in new packaging, and Target says the formula is the same.

Both ingredients have independent research behind them, collected in a 2013 review of the clinical literature on urea and a 2003 review of ceramides and skin function. Those are ingredient reviews, not tests of these jars.

Original Healing is a different product: seven ingredients, with petrolatum second, mineral oil third, and no urea. Eucerin's site, eucerinus.com, says it relieves dry skin. As a moisturizer, it is a thick cream for very dry skin that Eucerin says provides 24-hour moisture and suggests for hands and feet too.

Aveeno Skin Relief lists glycerin second and petrolatum fourth, with oat kernel flour, oat kernel oil, and oat kernel extract 8th to 10th and shea butter 11th, which Aveeno sells as Triple Oat plus shea butter. Aveeno says it gives 72-hour moisture, citing a 2024 Kenvue clinical study with no sample size. The front label names dry to very dry, sensitive skin.

Eucerin Q10 vs Aveeno Positively Radiant: which face cream?

They do different jobs. Eucerin sells Q10 Revitalize Daily Cream for the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and Aveeno sells Positively Radiant Night Cream for even-looking tone and the look of dark spots. The Eucerin jar costs less and lists no fragrance.

Aveeno's anti-aging collection on aveeno.com lists a serum and an eye gel, not a face moisturizer, so there is no like-for-like match. We do not count Positively Radiant as an anti-aging product.

Eucerin used to sell this jar as Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Creme, and it still lists sensitive skin among its skin types. Target shows $12.99 as a new lower price, down from $14.49.

Aveeno says the soy in Positively Radiant "is clinically proven to even skin tone and texture," but that is a statement about the ingredient, with no details, not a study of this cream. Its ingredient list comes from the Amazon listing, because aveeno.com groups ingredients out of label order. Amazon was selling it for $14.21 on September 29, 2026.

Aveeno's other face product here, Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer, is a fragrance-free gel cream sold for sensitive skin at $26.99 for 1.7 oz. It lists oat kernel flour 5th, plus feverfew and centella asiatica extract. Aveeno reports that 92 percent agreed their skin felt instantly soothed, a consumer self-assessment with no sample size.

Which is cheaper, Eucerin or Aveeno?

Eucerin is cheaper at regular prices, for both the everyday lotion and the face cream, but Aveeno's 18 oz lotions at Target came in lower on the day we checked.

Eucerin prices are Target's. Aveeno prices are Ulta regular prices and Amazon's list price. On September 29, 2026, Ulta had both 12 oz Aveeno lotions on sale at $9.74, or $0.81 per ounce, and Target listed the 18 oz bottles at $9.99, or $0.56 per ounce. The night cream at $14.21 works out to $8.36 per ounce. Jars and face creams are sold by net weight and lotions by fluid ounce, so compare jars with jars and bottles with bottles.

Which is better for sensitive skin, Eucerin or Aveeno?

It is close. Eight of the nine products list no fragrance and none lists denatured alcohol; the one product with fragrance is Aveeno's Positively Radiant night cream.

Aveeno calls Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Skin Relief allergy tested, and says Calm + Restore is formulated without fragrance, parabens, phthalates, dyes, and alcohol. For the night cream, Aveeno says fragrance is under 1% of the formula. Eucerin calls Advanced Repair, Original Healing, and Q10 fragrance-free and dye-free. The two Eucerin urea jars contain lactic acid, and the new-look Roughness Relief jar says it exfoliates. Patch-test either brand first.

• Oat in a pump bottle for very dry, sensitive-feeling skin: Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion.
• A fragrance-free face cream for the look of fine lines: Eucerin Q10 Revitalize Daily Cream.
• A night cream for even-looking tone, if fragrance does not bother you: Aveeno Positively Radiant, at its selling price rather than list.
• A fragrance-free gel cream for sensitive-feeling skin: Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer.
