Cetaphil vs Eucerin: the short answer

Pick Eucerin for very dry or rough skin on the body, where its creams cost the same or less per ounce. Pick Cetaphil for eczema-prone skin that needs one cream for face and body, for a creamy face cleanser, or for a face moisturizer.

Most people comparing Cetaphil and Eucerin want one of two things: a big jar of cream for dry skin, or a gentle face wash. We compared nine products from the two US ranges, using the ingredient lists and claims on each brand's site and prices from Ulta and Amazon brand-store listings on September 17, 2026.

The two brands reach for different ingredients. Four of the five Cetaphil products here pair glycerin with niacinamide and panthenol. Choose this if

• Choose Eucerin if you want a big jar of body cream for less. Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream was $13.99 for 16 oz on Amazon, or $0.87 per ounce. Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream was $18.99 for 16.0 oz at Ulta, or $1.19 per ounce.
• Choose Cetaphil if your skin is eczema-prone and you want one jar for face and body. Cetaphil says Moisturizing Cream is accepted by the National Eczema Association as gentle on eczema-prone skin, and labels it for face or body.
• Choose Eucerin if your skin feels rough and bumpy. Eucerin Roughness Relief Cream lists urea second, at a stated 10%, with lactic acid further down.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream vs Eucerin Advanced Repair and Original Healing

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream and Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream both list glycerin second, then split at the third ingredient: petrolatum for Cetaphil, urea for Eucerin. Eucerin Original Healing Cream is simpler still, with seven ingredients led by water, petrolatum, and mineral oil.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream is the only jar here labeled for the face as well as the body. Further down its list are sunflower seed oil, panthenol, niacinamide, sweet almond oil, and vitamin E. It lists no fragrance, and benzyl alcohol, which appears on fragrance allergen lists, sits 20th. Cetaphil reports clinical results for 48-hour hydration and says the cream improves the moisture barrier in 3 days and fully restores it in 1 week. It also says 97% of users felt their skin seemed more hydrated over time.

Petrolatum, third on the Cetaphil label and second on the Original Healing label, has its own research: a 2016 study in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology looked at barrier repair responses to petrolatum. That study tested the ingredient, not either jar.

Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream is a lightweight body moisturizer. Urea sits third, shea butter seventh, and ceramide NP (Eucerin's Ceramide-3) tenth, alongside sodium lactate, lactic acid, and cholesterol. Eucerin does not state how much urea it contains. It lists no fragrance and claims 48-hour moisture.

Eucerin Original Healing Cream has the shortest label here: water, petrolatum, mineral oil, ceresin, lanolin alcohol, phenoxyethanol, and piroctone olamine. Eucerin says it seals in moisture and claims 24-hour moisture. On September 17, the only listing we could verify was a 2-jar value pack at $31.56, so the $0.99 per ounce figure covers 32 oz across both jars, not a single jar.

How to read the brand claims

Every result above comes from the brands. A clinical claim means the brand measured or graded something in a test. A consumer self-assessment means users rated how their own skin looked or felt, which tells you they liked the product, not how much their skin changed. None of the nine product pages gives a sample size or published study details, so treat each figure as brand-reported.

Is Cetaphil or Eucerin better for eczema-prone skin?

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream is the only product in this Cetaphil vs Eucerin comparison with an outside acceptance for eczema-prone skin: Cetaphil reports that the National Eczema Association accepts it as gentle on eczema-prone skin. Eucerin Original Healing Cream is the shorter formula, and Eucerin positions it for dry skin associated with eczema, psoriasis, or drying medications.

Between the two, read the label:

• Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream works on face and body. It lists sweet almond oil and benzyl alcohol.
• Eucerin Original Healing Cream has seven ingredients and no fragrance. It lists lanolin alcohol fifth.

Plain moisturizers for dry skin in atopic dermatitis have their own clinical literature, summarized in a 2025 review of clinical studies on basic emollients. That review covers the category, not these jars. A moisturizer makes dry skin more comfortable. It does not treat eczema, and a flare that does not settle belongs with a dermatologist.

Which is better for rough, bumpy skin, Cetaphil or Eucerin?

Eucerin, because Roughness Relief Cream is the only Cetaphil or Eucerin product in this comparison made for rough, bumpy skin. Urea comes second, at a stated 10%, with sodium lactate, ceramide NP, and lactic acid (the alpha hydroxy acid Eucerin names) further down. It lists no fragrance.

Eucerin says the cream smooths rough, bumpy skin with hydration that lasts up to 24 hours, and reports clinical results for a smoother, healthy-looking appearance. A 2021 review in Dermatology and Therapy covers urea's moisturizing and keratolytic properties. Keratolytic means it helps loosen rough, built-up skin. The review is about the ingredient, not this cream.

Because of the AHA, Eucerin's page carries a sunburn alert: use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using it and for a week afterward. At $18.99 for 16 oz, it costs the same per ounce as Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, which lists no urea or lactic acid.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser vs Eucerin Hydrating Cleansing Gel

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser suits dry, sensitive skin that prefers a creamy wash with no foam, while Eucerin Hydrating Cleansing Gel costs less at checkout and is the one to pick if you wear waterproof makeup. For normal to oily skin, Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser is the foaming option.

Gentle Skin Cleanser has 10 ingredients, with glycerin second, panthenol fourth, and niacinamide fifth. You can rinse it or wipe it off. Cetaphil says it is clinically proven to leave skin hydrated after cleansing, and the Ulta listing adds a clinical claim of 48 hours of hydration when wiped off instead of rinsed. In a self-assessment, 95% of users felt it cleansed gently.

Hydrating Cleansing Gel also has 10 ingredients: glycerin second, then coco-betaine, coco-glucoside, and glyceryl glucoside (Eucerin's Gluco-Glycerol), with sodium hyaluronate seventh. It goes on a wet face and neck and rinses off, morning and night. Eucerin says it removes makeup without drying out skin and suits oily skin too.

Daily Facial Cleanser is a gel-to-foam wash. Its ingredient list includes masking fragrance. Cetaphil reports it is clinically proven to remove 94% of impurities.

Is Cetaphil or Eucerin better for your face?

Cetaphil gives you more face products in this comparison: two cleansers, a lightweight lotion, a night cream, and a cream labeled for face or body. Eucerin's face product here is Hydrating Cleansing Gel, and Eucerin describes Advanced Repair Cream as a body moisturizer.

Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion is an ultra-light, oil-free lotion for all skin types. It lists hydroxyethyl urea third and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid eighth, with no fragrance, and Cetaphil says it locks in moisture for 24 hours.

Cetaphil Healthy Renew Night Cream targets the look of fine lines. Cetaphil describes its purified peptides as a retinol alternative, and the brand FAQ says the cream contains no retinol. No ingredient on the label uses the word peptide, though, so the list does not show which one Cetaphil means. It does show panthenol seventh, beeswax tenth, niacinamide 12th, and shea butter 15th, plus edelweiss extract, rice lees extract, and adenosine.

Cetaphil says the night cream visibly reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 2 weeks, without saying how that was measured. In a consumer self-assessment, 81% agreed fine lines looked smoothed and skin appeared firmer. A night cream can soften how fine lines look over weeks of use. It does not do what a procedure does.

Are Cetaphil and Eucerin owned by the same company?

No. Cetaphil is owned by Galderma, the skin health company that lists Cetaphil among its brands. Eucerin belongs to Beiersdorf, the German company that also owns NIVEA and Aquaphor.

Which is cheaper, Cetaphil or Eucerin?

Eucerin is cheaper for body cream, and the two brands are close on cleansers. Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream costs $5.00 less than Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream for a 16 oz jar, or $0.87 per ounce against $1.19.

Neither brand lists prices on its US site. The prices below come from retailer listings on September 17, 2026: Ulta for Cetaphil, the Cetaphil Store on Amazon for Daily Hydrating Lotion, and the Eucerin Store on Amazon for Eucerin. Retailer prices change often. Sizes appear exactly as each listing prints them.

Ulta lists the Cetaphil cleansers as 8.0 oz without saying fluid ounces, so treat the cleanser comparison as close, not exact.

Which is better for sensitive skin?

Cetaphil and Eucerin are close on sensitive skin: none of the nine products lists denatured alcohol, and only Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser includes masking fragrance in its ingredient list. The differences sit in smaller ingredients.

Cetaphil states that all five of its products here are dermatologist tested and clinically proven to be gentle on sensitive skin. Eucerin mentions sensitive skin on all four of its product pages. So pick by ingredient, not brand, and patch-test anything new.
